Vancouver & Seattle
Village people
Finally the sun reappears today, and with the promise of better weather for our final few hours in Vancouver we walk down to Kitsilano beach, meandering at the pace of Eve and Nea as we go. We drink coffee watching locals playing volleyball on the beach, and then hop on a little boat over to Granville Island where we have lunch at Bridges restaurant on the promenade.
Blessed with a sunny walk back to Bethan and Simon’s, we finish our packing and Bethan drives us across to the airport where we say a heartfelt goodbye on the concourse. How wonderful to have had the chance to spend time with our dear friends again, and how sad for it to be over all too soon. We toast our wonderful time in Canada with a good few glasses of wine in the airport lounge before the short propeller plane flight back to Seattle.
Coman on Kitsilano beach
Once checked into the Hampton Suites Airport hotel we decide to go out for a late bit of dinner at the local Dave’s Diner, not expecting much – but we are greeted with a funky 50’s style bar and diner with number plates over the walls and staff members that are straight out of a sitcom. Drinking red wine, listening to their banter, complaints and good humour we reflect on our outrageous good fortune to live the lives we do and experience the things we have on this trip.
Reality dawns tomorrow with our flight back to the UK, but for now we’ll have another glass of Merlot…
